Near the end of April 2013, many members of the Leggat clan decided to make the trek down to Huntersville for the annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games. It was a beautiful weekend full of kids, kilts, and some questionable Scottish cuisine.
Clan Leggat: What they lack in looks they make up for in singing ability.
The 4.5-year-old Caroline seemed to really enjoy the many photo opportunities, while 3-year-old James generally ignored them, and 8-month-old Henry endured/protested as needed.
Henry thinking "This isn't so bad."
"I can look to the side."
"Do you really think a denim hat is going to help?"
Henry sees his chance and makes his break. He vastly underestimated Caroline's grip and desire for the perfect picture.
She looks so sweet Grandad couldn't resist giving her a ride.
Unfortunately, the charm quickly disappeared.
Kettle corn was a big hit.
Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins were also pretty popular.
Rural Hill has a "Flowers of the Forest" ceremony during the festival, and keeps a permanent memorial Cairn where anyone can lay a stone in honor of a loved one.
"The cairn is a memorial built, stone by stone, by those who pass by. These stones have been placed here in loving memory of our absent brothers and sisters who have passed on. They are now Flowers of the Forest. Historic Rural Hill maintains a registry for the Memorial Cairn."
With heavy hearts and tearful eyes, the Leggats laid two stones in honor of Grammy and Debbie.
More thankful than ever to have so many wonderful little children around.
One of the final events of the weekend was the Kilted Mile. We had no idea how competitive the field would be.
Don't worry, there are tights on under there.
Some of the competition didn't follow the rules.
Our skinny teenager, with nice running form.
James wastes no time asking the only important question: "Did you win Cam?"
Three generations of handsome Leggat men, highlighted by the cool teenage smile.
Worlds best cheering and support team.
