March Madness Second Edition

This seems like a perfect time to follow-up on one of my first posts, about the necessary indoctrination of our young fan. With the help of our friends and family, she has had a very good supply of the necessary gear. Caroline certainly doesn't mind getting dressed up for pre-game pictures with mom. She also very much enjoys watching the game with dad - getting to pace around the room, hoot and holler at the TV, and jump around in my arms. Being her parents, we think Caroline is great at about everything, but I can assure you that she is exceptionally advanced at watching basketball games with me. She loves the sight of the TV. She is always ready to share exciting moments by being bounced around and giving out two-tooth smiles. She may be the best game watching buddy I have, as long as the game doesn't run into nap time, feeding time, diaper change time, or I want my "mmm-ma" time (what she says when she's tired of playing with dad and wants her mommy). Below are some of our favorite pictures in her Carolina gear.

She shows me she is ready to watch the game by sitting up . . .

. . . paying rapt attention . . .

. . . and being ready to stand up and cheer on the Heels.

As part of her pre-game warm up, she likes to dive on the floor just like the real players.

Sometimes she gets a little nervous before the game, and her cheeks turn red.

"Give me a break, ref!"

She practices her crawling during the time outs.

Doing a few push-ups to stay focused during halftime.

"The Tar Heels Win!"

Carolina merchandise even comes through for us when we need to calm down a little . . .
. . . and re-hydrate after the game.

Even grandad can't resist cheering when Caroline gets excited.
Game watching buddies for life.

So cute! It is quite fitting that due to a typo (if you buy that) she was almost named Carolina.

Caroline,

Wow - my first attempt at smack talk and it slaps me in the face! Looks like I'm a total jinx. My apologies to UConn. Now that my bracket is destroyed, I can cheer for UNC. Thank goodness your parents had the good sense to go to a school whose colors make your eyes look so good. My mom's cousins all went to Mich State - so I thought about just hoping for a "good game"... but that's lame.

Congratulations on your BIG WIN, Caroline! I'm sure the Tar Heels will be calling you to thank you for pulling them through the crucial moments. Did I see you taking a drink from a sippy cup?! Sorry...have to go, I'd better get practicing!

No worries Baby John... that sippy cup was just a prop. Mostly I just like to roll it, scoot over to get it and then roll it away again of course!

Abby, sorry about UConn's loss. I don't think it was your smack talk that jinxed you, you certainly looked so sweet and innocent doing it.

We sure are excited around here about Carolina. Daddy even wore his cape to work and he's worn Carolina Blue for about a week now. You'd think he'd run out, but mommy keeps a full stock around for occasions such as this.
